The salt is mixed with sugar, starch, wheat flour, and extracts from dried licorice root, and then heated to reach the desired consistency. If you are not a Finn you probably will not get it. Above the image are the words "Julma Salmiakki". That means cruel salmiakki. Like so many before, this variety stings my tongue and sets my saliva glands alight. But then something happens.
