California metalcore band Silent Planet have just released their new album Iridescent on Solid State Records, and if you dug the pre-release singles , you'll probably be very pleased with the full thing too. It really defies the genre, working in experimental electronics, atmospheric pop, and more, and still finding plenty of ways to be bone-crushingly heavy.
If you want to get an even better idea of the music they were channelling on this LP, vocalist Garrett Russell and guitarist Mitch Stark made us a list of 10 songs that inspired the album, and it's a musically diverse list that includes Arca, Death Cab, mewithoutYou, Paramore, Anderson. Paak, System Of A Down, and more. Stream the album and read on for what the band had to say His ability to build odd-metered or oddly-grouped structures within the music while always finding new ways to bring the main theme back into the picture is something that is very impressive to me and I spend a good deal of time trying to figure out ways of doing that within our music.
Our new album is about a 24 hour period back in , when I tried to take my life while we were on a tour in Europe. After being apprehended by police in Belgium and brought to a mental hospital for evaluation, I traveled back to the United States feeling like a confused and broken shell of myself.
On the trip home, I came across this song and listened to it on repeat. The song talks about a phenomenon that many may resonate with - getting lost to be found. He talks about the archetypal "wilderness" process of searching for answers and challenging pre-existing ideas.
The lyric "I think we're all lost till we walk in the wilderness" sums up so much of what I was struggling with at the time, and what I hoped to convey with our new album. This track in particular is one of my favorites, full of surreal sound design and bizarre but beautiful effected vocals. The attention to detail in terms of the mix and sounds is astounding.
Some of the more otherworldly sounds and textures in her music were a huge influence on my approach to certain segments on the album. You got it. Condescending you say? Fuck it, add it there too.
Each song fits so well with the storyline yes there's a storyline , and this band is the first out of the bunch that actually took their sweet ass time to make songs longer than 5 minutes, which takes way more inspiration than it takes to make a genetic MMM. Oh, and don't let me get into the atmosphere. You get the point. My main point is this. MMM can actually have potential if some heart is put into it rather than to just sell music to become a sellout.
MMM can really be redefined to something that our community might find appealing, bands just have to be more open about the music they're selling Ahem, Memphis May Fire.
By the way, if you ask yourself why the Winter Soldier is in the background, it's because that fool looks way too similar to guy in the art cover of Crown The Empire's album. A 15 year old wrote this blog? Well, damn, fam! All I was thinking about at your age was worthless shit.
Keep it up! Sometimes it's not so great to be the genius out of the bunch. It's sometimes rather more solitary, so comments like these are highly appreciated. I grew up listening to traditional metal bands, but here are some metalcore bands I personally tend to enjoy. I pretty much intend all the "Cores" are not really metal.
You would definitely get the point on the sludge metal E. Still, I believe that I cannot be stuck to a specific era or subgenres. Love to experiment, understand and comment. Wassa Metal Amino. Nevermind, it's my shadow I'm gonna take this shit to Pimp My Ride. Fuck yo shit, ni :b: :b: a!!! And I totally didn't start listening to her music because I thought she was cute I thought you were gonna tell me why MMM can be good This album is D A N K. Yeah, yeah. I know this is irrelevant, but why is SpongeBob so bright in this picture?! Nuh-uh bitch, we don't need your cancer lyrics with us.
Can you like, finish already. More metallic and generally a more technical style of hardcore with breakdowns and clean sung parts as well for better or for worse. Metalcore is in my opinion one of the greatest musical genres out there. Most older fans claim that the newer bands are'nt even metalcore but they are just idiotic people who dislike change. A mixture of hardcore punk and metal.
Metalcore is short for metallic hardcore. There are 2 types of metalcore, regular metalcore and there's melodic metalcore.
Bands such as Hatebreed are just called hardcore. Although they do use elements of hardcore, they truly aren't. Bands like Minor Threat and Verbal abuse are true hardcore. I was listening to hatebreed!! Thats fuckin sick ass hardcore!!!!!
